An Explorer Scout Abseiling

What We Do

Explorer Scouts is about trying new things, building confidence, and spending time with people your age. Our programme mixes practical skills, outdoor activities, challenges, and social nights, with opportunities to take part in bigger events like camps and expeditions.

We meet every Monday evening, 7:30–9:00pm, during term time.

Weekly Explorer Nights

Each Monday night is planned by the leadership team and offers a mix of activities across the year. Sessions are designed to be varied, hands-on, and social, with something for everyone – every week is different from the last!

Not every night is about skills or expeditions. Social evenings, games, and team challenges are an important part of Explorer Scouts, giving everyone a chance to relax, have fun, and get to know each other better.

Some examples of activities we’ve ran:

  • Indoor Climbing
  • Cooking
  • First aid training
  • Night navigation
  • Quiz nights and Taskmaster-style challenges

Explorers are split into groups based on their year group, helping everyone settle in and build friendships with people at a similar stage.

Camps, Trips & Expeditions

Camps and expeditions are a key part of the Explorer experience. While we don’t camp every term, we generally participate in at least one camp each year, alongside our annual DofE expeditions.

Every year we:

  • Run Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions (More info on DofE)
  • Take part in outdoor challenges and skills-based activities
  • Offer opportunities to try things you wouldn’t normally do week-to-week

These activities help Explorers build independence, teamwork, and resilience.

Badges & Awards

Explorers can work towards a range of badges and awards that recognise skills, commitment, and personal challenge. While badges aren’t the focus of every activity, we aim to support Explorers who want to work towards the higher awards as part of their time with us.

Check out the dedicated Badges Page for more information, including where to put your badges.
